What were the rest of the Persians doing at Thermopylae??

Well since the movie 300 has come out, many people have become familiar with the epic battle of Thermopylae. You always read and hear about what was going on in the front lines of the Persians and Greeks but what was happening behind the scenes with the Persians?

Sources tell us that it was a very enclosed place with a sea on one side and a mountain on the other so there must have been thousands of men packed together all waiting their turn to be killed...ahem sorry fight. So here is a VERY satirical look at what they would have been doing.

Enjoy!

Roman Mistakes in Persia

Hey all I present you with my first toon! Its a pretty simple one till I learn the ropes on drawing toons on the computer but I like how it came out. Anyways this is actually true, sadly for some reason when the Romans fought or invaded the Parthians and the Sassanid Persians their generals almost always chose the flat level terrain that perfectly suited the Persians way of battle. Which included heavily armored horsemen called Cataphracts(think predecessor to the Knight) which were armed with 9 foot lances and completely armored from head to toe, the horse was armored in the same style.

Their other heavy hitter was their Horse Archers which were very fast and heavily armored at the same time. And as most of you have already figured out, horses need WIDE OPEN EXPANSES in order for their shock effect and tactics to work and sure enough thats exactly what the Romans let them have. Generals in between these time periods showed that they could defeat the Persians tactics if they were in the woods or on hilly terrain so it was not like it was a mystery or a new idea to them. The Persians had the same forces from the beginning of the Parthian Dynasty to the end of the Sassanid's, which spanned over hundreds of years.

Another key factor to their blunder is the Romans always chose when the battle happened, the Persians NEVER attacked and were always on the defensive, so why did they choose to accommodate their enemies way of battle? We'll most likely never know.

With out further ado, my first toon! Hope you enjoy!

P.S. A Quick side note, these toons will be done in C&H style and are supposed to look like that.

All the best,

Welcome!

This will be a cartoon blog that I am working on and writing. It will be looking at war in general in an often humorous light.
